  Yao people have been religious life through protect of natural resources in mount Dayao, Guangxi Prefecture of China. There are the rich in natural resources. This is why Yao people called mount Dayao "Sacred mountain" for over 800 years. Sacred mountains are central to certain religions and are the subjects of many legends.On the other hand, In recent years, government decided a mountain nature reserve established, local people were forbidden to enter the mountain, and local people got the ecological benefit.
 The compensation of ecological benefit is an important ecological project that was implemented at the beginning of this century in different regions in China. Yet, various problems emerged during its implementation. Majority of the local could not get enough subsidies because of the incomplete compensation system. The objective of this study is to investigate the ecological compensation of the grazing forbidden project and draw up criteria for the life-style of the farmers in the areas covered by this project. A questionnaire survey and follow up interviews were conducted in Mount Dayao, Guangxi Prefecture, China.
 With the example of Mount Dayao, this study discuss about the gap between local traditional conservation of natural resources and the governmental policy of natural resources protection, and establishes a way of new sustainable development in Mount Dayao.
