企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

The Iranian Islamist government has maintained an antagonistic relationship with American and European states since the revolution in 1979. Inspite of this, post-revolutionary Iran has been internationaly reknown for its films, turning out a galaxy of distinguished film directors, including Abbas Kiarostami and Mohsen Mahmalbaf. There are many Iranian Cinema fans among the Japanese. In addition, jointly produced or collaborated movies between Iran and Japan are increasing. However, the academic study to introduce the film policy and social change surounding Iranian films has not yet appeared in Japan despite growing interests among the Japanese audiences. This research project aims to conduct an interdisciplinary Iran-Japan collaborative study to understand 'Post-revolutionary Iranian Cinema and Society' from various aspects, such as history, sociology, economics, gender studies, literatures, and comparative cultural studies. Post-revolutionary Iran has experienced dramatic change from a secular monarchy to the Islamic Republic, where Islamic values have regulated an entire system of politics, society and culture. This study will analyze rapidly changing Iranian society in the globalization in three decades after the revolution through Iranian Cinema.
