企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

There are about 300 urban lakes in Jakarta metropolitan area, the capital of Indonesia. These urban lakes have been used under the particular natural conditions that are characteristic of this area. But even so few studies have been done on these lakes, and little was known including the history of these lakes. Lately, the rapid development and expansion of urban areas have caused losses of urban lakes, and the water quality has been deteriorated. On the other hand, economic development of the country make people concerned with important functions of urban lakes such as flood retention basins to prevent frequent flooding, and urban culture centers. This study aims to re-evaluate eco-services of urban lakes comprehending amenities, flood mitigation, water resources and landscapes so that these lakes would be utilized effectively. In order to evaluate these multiple functions of urban lakes, trans-disciplinary approach would be taken, including hydrology and limnology studies, historical transformation studies, biodiversity valuation studies focused on plants and dragonflies as appraisal standards. Ultimately this research project intends to propose a new model of urban lake area management in order to enhance these multiple functions. With the collaboration of many professional members, the integrated study on urban lakes in Jakarta will be carried out paying special attention to local environment conditions and socio-cultural background, and academic ideas to create conceptual plans for urban lakes will be proposed through discussions with stakeholders.
