企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

Although the Constitution of the Philippines declares 'the right of all citizens to quality education', regional areas are still faced with the lack of educational infrastructure in comparison with Metropolitan Manila. The National Museum, which was established in 1901 and has since developed as the largest museum complex in the Philippines, currently consists of the National Museum for Filipino People and the National Art Gallery and Planetarium and plans to open the National Museum of Natural History in 2015. While the National Museum properly functions as infrastructure for social education in Manila, it has yet to solve the problem of providing access to people living in regional areas as they rarely have the opportunity to visit the National Museum in Manila. Museums are not only able to support formal education in schools but also contribute to education for the young generation by offering alternative non-formal education. This research project aims to develop mobile exhibitions by utilizing collections held by the National Museum in order to allow young people to access museum collections in various inspirational venues. The outcome and effects of the mobile exhibitions will be assessed with a view to developing a flexible museum model that can apply to diverse regional areas. The goal of the project is to establish a next-generation museum vision, in which museums can generate new social values by redressing regional disparities in educational opportunities and developing human resources to manage natural and cultural heritage.
