企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

The international society agreed to encourage implementing a mechanism, or Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation plus (REDD+), for forest conservation to reduce CO2 emission. Though all measures and methodologies were not developed yet, it is important to know REDD+ will certainly be implemented, and that it will have a great influence on stakeholders of forest governance. Prior to implementing REDD+ projects, therefore, understanding of forest Social-Ecological System (SES) is indispensable to avoid tragic failures in which all efforts come to nothing. Objectives of the project are to provide reflective guidelines as a foundation of policy formation from SES perspective with a focus on local contexts of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Myanmar in terms of triple benefits (emission reduction, biodiversity conservation, and poverty eradication), and to establish a prototype virtual information center for forest SES. In order to achieve the objective, we will conduct (1) literature and document review, (2) data collection/ Interview/ Policy Forum at local and provincial level, (3) workshop in Ostrom Center (Bangkok) to share the idea, among the project members, of the reflective guidelines and information center. And (4) policy dialogues with government officials and NGOs at national level in four countries.
