企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

Modern society is exploring on "how to be released from the poverty of the mind". Is it not that this result was created due to forcefully disconnecting with the "boundary" that exists between nature and human?
So far we have tried to overcome "things that makes us anxious" like chaos, fear, and death within human life through advanced science and technology, and development of a social system.
However, we are starting to think that development does not necessarily lead to happiness because behind the benefits of development are the various problems we are facing now.
In this research, we are to find some kind of clues to solving the problem in the world of "Image Folklore". Our predecessors have been treating "things that makes us anxious" =  Image Folklore to function at the vague "boundary" located between nature and human.
By gathering the Higashishirakawa village in Gifu prefecture's Image Folklore (goblin, ghosts, etc) and take into account the mutual view of the nationwide cases, verify as to how the tradition was handed down, and what kind of roles were played. In addition, to inquire why the "boundary" was detached in modern society, for the merits and demerits to be the pillar of this study, and to question again from a variety of perspectives. Moreover, "things that make us anxious" (which was embraced by the ancestors) will be perceived as the "richness of the heart", and consider "boundary" as the world of adjoining land, and present how modern society can be found.
