(Abstract of Project Proposal)

Japan and Korea are similar in expanding influence of civil society with a stabilized liberal democracy that the central government still holding strong power. It results in many common cases for collaborations among corporations, government, and NPOs between Japan and Korea. The objective of this comparison is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages for CSR collaboration in enriching civil society and democratic traditions with remarking on the differences between the Japanese and Korean political and social cultures. These comparisons are expected to contribute to the examination of an East Asian CSR model. This research is original and unique and will use comprehensive and interdisciplinary measures to examine CSR as themes in constructing community development and civil society. Case studies will be compared to show the significance and effects of CSR in civil society. The outcome of this research will be published in both English and Japanese.
