企画書・概要 (Abstract of Project Proposal)

Irrigation ponds are important environment as temporary or permanent habitat of aquatic plants, aquatic insects, amphibians and so on. Irrigation ponds are increasing those have occurred of environmental changes (e.g. draining, landfill, closure of opening by woody extension of the pond edge, mud deposition, etc.) which are due to suspension of use and management abandonment of irrigation ponds according to abandoned farmlands. Because of this, it is nesessary to preserve irrigation ponds which are rich in biodiversity and it is also nesessary to restore irrigation ponds which are poor in biodiversity or which are approaching some kind of crisis but rich in biodiversity. But irrigation ponds are about 20 million units in Japan, so it requires immense amount of time and effort to only understand the current situation, does not lead to up to planning of restoration policy. In this research, it is aimed to build a unified and general-purpose approach to systematic and comprehensive evaluation and estimate the irrigation ponds environment by using the environmental conditions (environmental factors) that act to the habitat of the irrigation ponds organisms. Using the results of this research, it is scheduled to perform a study to estimate the natural restoration potential of irrigation ponds and to improve the proposal of natural restoration method for abandoned irrigation ponds.
